Being Thankful

Why is this picture of me out for a walk recently so significant?

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.
~Alphonse Karr

I had a pretty major foot surgery 3 months ago. A week ago I got my boot off and was allowed to once again wear shoes. Every day when I put my shoes on, I get so excited. It feels amazing, and I’m so grateful to once again be walking in shoes!

Yes, I have pain and swelling.

Yes, I move slow.

Yes, it’s difficult and I still have to be careful to not cause damage while healing.

But I’m not focusing on those things. I’m focusing on the fact doctors figured out what was wrong and I’m now on the other side slowly healing.

I had an extra bone in the navicular joint causing debilitating pain where I could barely walk on many days along with other problems. Apparently people are born with this. And the major tendon in your leg is attached to that bone (it’s this way with anyone with this), so I had to have a tendon repair in order to remove that bone. It takes a year for a tendon to fully reattach to the bone it’s now anchored in. This is why I have to be careful.

I’m thankful I have a business where I could heal while working from my laptop!

And thankful this is temporary and that eventually I’ll be back to 100%. For now I’m just thrilled to be able to wear two shoes and take slow walks!!!

Why am I sharing this? What challenge am I hoping you take away from this?

Well, here’s the key thing: You always have a choice how you see things.

It’s so easy to be overwhelmed when things don’t go exactly how we think they should and to see things in the most negative light. But I challenge you this week to take the things in your life that are difficult and find the positive and be thankful for those things.

What is something you are thankful for? Send me an email because I’d love to know!
